Message from Department Chair

As Chair of the VCU Department of Radiology, there is no prouder moment than when I have the privilege to welcome new faculty, fellows, and residents to our team. What an honor it is to see our faculty grow in number and train the next generation of radiologists. In addition, I am absolutely delighted to share the successes of our faculty whose outstanding achievements have been recognized both locally and nationally.

At a time when both university-based and private radiology practices are met with unprecedented workforce shortages, the VCU Radiology Department, with the support of VCU Health System senior leadership, has pursued multiple solutions…one of which is the hiring of radiologists who read remotely from other states (currently NC, FL, MD, & MI). This initiative was highlighted in the fall edition of the School of Medicine’s 12th & Marshall alumni magazine. The one and only Dr. Gerald Capps (Radiology Residency Class of 1996) was featured in this article. Please read on and click on the link that will take you to the full article. I would welcome hearing from any alumni who may be interested in this opportunity to work with our Department!

In an article from the School of Medicine, author Lisa Crutchfield Barth describes the impact of remote radiology for the institution. Lisa touches on how the Department of Radiology has re-connected with alumni and the success of the teleradiology model being used which has allowed previous faculty like Dr. Gerald Capps (above) the opportunity to serve the department where they trained.
